Privacy
Bornplace turns a date and a place into a story. We collect as little as we can to do that.
What you give us
- A birth date, a city, and optionally a first name and birth time. These build your page. They appear in your page’s link so you can share it, and in the preview image apps show for that link, which is kept in Cloudflare’s cache like the page itself. We don’t attach them to an account because there are no accounts.
- An email address, only if you buy something. Polar passes it to us with your order; we store it with the day you bought and use it only to send your access link and let you get back to it.
- For gifts, the recipient’s name, email and your message, used only to deliver that gift on the day you choose.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or rent personal information.
- We never see or store your card details. Payments are processed by Polar, our merchant of record (see their privacy policy).
- Your first name stays with us: it isn’t sent to Polar.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets its own cookies on the home page (see below). Besides those, three small first-party cookies, no ad cookies: one remembers which day you’re checking out for (24 hours, so we can bring you back to it after paying), one keeps the access keys for days you’ve bought, so they stay open on this device (one year), and one holds a random visit id for our own statistics (gone when you close your browser). Clearing cookies is safe: your emailed link brings access back.
Analytics and ads
We keep our own simple statistics, stored with our other data at Cloudflare, to see how many visits reach each step and whether they came from TikTok, Instagram or elsewhere. Each visit has a random id. We record the steps reached, the source of the visit, the country, whether it’s a phone, and, when you buy, the product and price against that id. Your name, birth date, city, email and IP address aren’t part of these statistics. We delete them after 180 days.
Our home page also uses Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies (_ga, up to two years) and tells Google about your visit: the source, your device and browser, and your approximate location, worked out from your IP address. It doesn’t run on any other page, so Google never sees your story, and it runs before you type anything: your name, birth date and city aren’t sent to it. See Google’s privacy policy. We don’t use ad trackers. If we add them, we’ll update this page first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Abuse protection
To stop anyone overloading the service, we count how many new preview images each IP address requests per minute. Cloudflare keeps that count for a short time. We don’t store it or link it to anything else.
Services we rely on
Hosting, database, statistics and email delivery (Cloudflare), payments (Polar) and home page analytics (Google) process data on our behalf. Historical data comes from public sources listed at the bottom of every story.
