A sky blue to green stone for good fortune, protection and success. The U.S. list also gives tanzanite and zircon.
About turquoise
- Turquoise is one of the oldest gems in use: it was set in Egyptian jewelry more than 5,000 years ago.
- Its blue comes from copper, and veins of the surrounding rock leave the dark web pattern called matrix.
- Turquoise jewelry is a centuries-old tradition of the Navajo, Zuni and Pueblo peoples of the American Southwest.
Also for December: tanzanite and zircon
- Tanzanite is found in only one place on Earth, a few square miles near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Tiffany & Co. named it in 1968, and it joined the list in 2002.
- Zircon crystals are the oldest pieces of Earth ever found: grains from Western Australia are about 4.4 billion years old.
